Out in the meadow one night,
On a thin blade of grass sat a young firefly,
Scared of emitting his light,
For fear he would die.
His mother had warned him,
“Bats, badgers, and bears
All will be drawn to your spark.

A cricket who fiddled nearby
Saw him there waiting and said,
“Brother how can you hide
All your light deep inside?
When you look so divine!

So flick! and the firefly lit up his tail.
He flew up and sent out a flare.
The other scared fireflies saw it and started to dare…

Nightingales, cuckoos, bats, badgers and bears,
Came out, as if in a trance,
Seeing the fireflies twirling, they joined in the dance.

They’d do as all predators ought.
But in this new galaxy’s light, tonight, they forgot.
The truth is we’re all fireflies,
All of us waiting our life for a sign,
Forgetting that we are the stars that have to align,
If you send out a spark, you’ll be part of a dazzling design.
